Rockhampton Pentecost
Which church is the real church?
Around 100 people from a broad cross section of churches gathered in St Joseph’s Cathedral in Rockhampton to celebrate Pentecost Sunday and the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. Ministers pastors and leaders from Pentecostal, Baptist, Anglican, Lutheran, Catholic, Baptist, independent, and of course Uniting churches took part. An Ecumenical choir led the singing.
Overall leadership of the service was provided by Catholic Bishop Michael McCarthy and Pastor David Alley.
Pastor Peter Noble from the Gladstone & Rockhampton Lutheran churches gave the message. He organised his message around his young daughter’s question about which church was the real church. He gave a brief history of the division of the church before bringing us back to our unity in Christ.
Members of the Rock Covenant (South Sea-Islander) Church sang a Gospel song as a musical ‘item’.
From the Uniting Church Rev Andrew Gillies led the prayer of confession and a few members of South Rockhampton Uniting sang in the Choir, while others were in the congregation.
Pictures include the gathered Pastors and ministers on the platform, the order of service, members of South Rocky UC, the Pentecost window in St Joseph’s and the order of service.
